Federal drug charges connected to drug distribution in Illinois

Federal agents say they've been trying to tear down a Mexican drug cartel for some time. A lengthy investigation ensued that resulted in drug charges filed against 28 people. They are accused of drug distribution in several states, including Illinois.

Reports indicated it was the well-known Sinaloa drug cartel that was the target of the recent investigation. This particular group is known to import substantial quantities of deadly drugs, such as heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine from across the border. The investigation was brought to a conclusion on a recent Friday morning.

The drugs were allegedly imported from Mexico, and the bust went down in New Mexico. The suspected drug ring is supposedly led by a 30-year-old Mexican national. He has not been arrested. Those who were arrested are facing drug trafficking and money laundering charges in federal court. The Drug Enforcement Administration also says it seized nearly $57,000 in the investigation.

The youngest defendant is a 19-year-old female, and the eldest is a 50-year-old male. Most of the other 28 arrested are between ages 20 and 40. In situations like this, those facing federal drug charges for trafficking in Illinois or other states typically stand to lose a lot. In addition to personal freedom, those who have families will have their private lives disrupted; some may lose jobs, and all will likely bear negative consequences of the situation for a long time to come. This is one of many reasons it's best to secure the most experienced criminal defense assistance one can find to help obtain the most positive outcome possible in court.
