Altercation in Chicago results in murder charges

A circuit court judge in Illinois was shot outside his home. Two men are now facing murder charges in connection with the incident. The reported dispute that led to a series of devastating events began in April of this year.

Apparently, a friend of the 66-year-old judge became involved in an embittered argument. At some point, it's said the judge tried to intervene. Things quickly got out of hand from there, when a person opened gunfire and fatally shot the judge. The whole situation reportedly took place right outside the judge's own home.

A 37-year-old man who authorities claim drove a getaway vehicle after the judge was shot has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery and obstruction of justice. He is currently being held in a county jail with no bond. A 45-year-old man, believed to have been the shooter, has also been charged with first-degree murder.

Facing murder charges in Illinois or another jurisdiction is obviously a very serious matter. Prosecutors tend to be quite tenacious in their efforts to secure convictions when a judge or law enforcement officer is killed. Generally speaking, only the most experienced and aggressive criminal defense attorneys are likely to be able to help defendants address such grave accusations. The lawyer can scrutinize the entire investigation and arrest process to determine whether any personal rights were violated, and can take appropriate steps to challenge charges and/or evidence in court. Many people have successfully mitigated their circumstances by acting alongside savvy and experienced representation.
