Illinois man facing murder charges has bond set

Jail cells in Illinois are filled with many people who have been charged with violent crimes. Often, bonds set in such circumstances are extremely high. Such is the case for one man who is facing murder charges. His bond has been set at $2 million.

The 56-year-old man is accused of taking the life of his former wife. Police say the woman, also age 56, was found dead in her apartment. Preliminary investigations allegedly showed she had been brutally beaten, stabbed and suffocated. Authorities also say her ribs were broken.

The man in question is also accused of stealing the deceased woman's credit cards, cash and car. It has been suggested that the two former spouses engaged in a heated argument at some point, and that the man had taken her life in an angry rage. Five days passed before police found the woman's body.

The judge has scheduled the next hearing for later in February. Officials in Illinois have already said that prosecutors plan to be very aggressive in their quest for conviction where these murder charges are concerned. In such situations, a defendant is often able to mitigate his or her circumstances by retaining assistance from a criminal defense attorney who has handled other violent crime cases. A particular outcome cannot be presumed as the court makes decisions based upon the evidence presented; no matter what happens, having an attorney by one's side throughout trial proceedings helps alleviate stress and increases one's chances for obtaining the most positive results possible.
