Alleged speeding leads to attempted murder charges in Illinois

A 57-year-old woman in Illinois is facing big problems after getting stopped by police on the road. The officer who pulled her over said he observed her driving at excessive speeds. However, incident quickly escalated and reportedly led to attempted murder charges being filed against the woman.

Officers say there were two occupants in the woman's car. Although no specific details were provided, police also stated that upon observing the occupants of the vehicle, they noticed that it appeared a violent struggle had occurred. Both the woman (who had been driving at the time) and the passenger were transported to an area hospital for urgent treatment of injuries.

The incident transpired not long after 9 a.m. on a recent Saturday. The driver was ultimately arrested and charged with a violent crime. She was taken from the hospital to a county jail cell.

Facing attempted murder charges is obviously far more serious than a minor traffic ticket for speeding. In such situations, a defendant has the right to request immediate legal representation. From that point on, he or she need not answer any questions nor discuss the situation at all without his or her attorney being present. In fact, experienced criminal defense is often a key factor toward avoiding conviction and minimizing the potential negative effects of a particular incidence. If an Illinois attorney determines that a police officer violated a defendant's personal rights in some way during a vehicle search or at any time throughout the arrest process, charges and/or supposed evidence proffered by the prosecution may be challenged in court.
