Man charged for white collar crime has pleaded guilty

Those who work for the postal service in Illinois may sometimes have access to certain personal information of other workers. Any use of such information for illicit purposes may, of course, be subject to punishment by law. A man in another state was accused of being involved in a white collar crime scheme of this sort, and has reportedly entered a guilty plea regarding the charges against him.

The man in question was one of more than a dozen charged for an alleged multimillion dollar identity theft operation. He was accused of receiving personal information of co-workers from another defendant in this case. The man says he used the information given to him to order a credit card, then intercepted the card when it arrived in the mail before it reached the person whose identity he had used on the application.

The man was charged with aggravated identity theft. All 13 people were indicted in May 2016. Sentencing following the man's guilty plea is expected to take place in March of this year. Potential penalties include fines as high as $250,000, as well as up to two years behind bars.

Just because more than one person has been charged in the same white collar crime incident doesn't necessarily mean every person will enter a guilty plea, nor does it mean the court will issue the same decision against each person. When more than one person is charged for the same crime, each person has the opportunity to present a defense in court. Generally speaking, avoiding conviction and minimizing the potential negative impact of a particular situation in Illinois is likelier if an experienced defense attorney acts on one's behalf.
