Illinois woman indicted for fraud, identity theft and more

A woman in Illinois faces nearly 100 counts of various white collar crime charges. Police investigators say she committed fraud, identity theft and more over an extended period of time, dating back to May 2015. A few days before this past Christmas, police took her into custody.

Detectives later said they had received several reports of alleged identity theft. They reportedly launched an extensive investigation that somehow led them to the 34-year-old woman. She has since been indicted, accused of 31 misdemeanors and 59 felonies. Authorities say they found the woman in possession of stolen identity resources. They allege she may have used the identities to secure bank loans, open financial accounts and obtain credit cards.

Officials say the woman was in possession of dozens of identities belonging to other people. Although it may be quite challenging to fight so many charges in court, she is fully entitled to the presumption of innocence that protects all individuals accused of committing a crime. In many criminal proceedings, much often depends on the type of defense presented in court.

Every accused person in Illinois and all other states has the right to present a vigorous defense. Often, those facing fraud or identity theft charges act alongside a defense lawyer who is used to aggressively litigating these issues. Experienced representation may help combat various tactics and strategies used by prosecutors in their often tenacious quests to send those charged with white collar crimes to jail. State and federal processes are different, and a defense attorney who has defended clients in both criminal justice systems can clarify particular laws and procedures that govern such matters.
