Prison sentence rendered after murder conspiracy conviction

Two members of the same family have reportedly been convicted of trying to kill the same person in Illinois on more than one occasion. One of the two brothers recently received a prison sentence. The other pleaded guilty and was already sentenced for the crime earlier in the year.

The two brothers' sentences together add up to 75 years behind bars. They will both do time for attempting to murder an undercover federal informant. The incidents took place in 2014. While the informant was indeed shot two times, neither of the shots was fatal.

One of the men involved in the situation is 40 years old and is said to have been a crack cocaine and heroin dealer in Chicago. His 39-year-old brother reportedly worked to conspire with him in order to take out the undercover agent who was apparently planning a drug bust at the time. When the first shooting took place, a bystander was injured by gunfire.

In similar federal cases, an experienced Illinois defense attorney may be able to obtain a reduced prison sentence under certain circumstances. At any rate, the chances of achieving positive results in court are typically increased by acting alongside skilled and aggressive defense assistance. When charges are filed at a federal level, prosecutors tend to be quite tenacious in their quests for conviction. Merely being charged with a federal crime, however, is not enough to prove one's guilt; whether a conviction is handed down or not often hinges on the strength of the defense presented in court.
