Man in Illinois facing murder charges in police officer's death

An incident occurred in Illinois in October 2016 that resulted in the death of a police officer. A 34-year-old man is now facing murder charges associated with the death. While it is impossible to presume what the outcome of any case might be, it is safe to say that when serious charges are in question, a strong defense is usually needed to produce positive results.

This particular situation unfolded when the now deceased police officer was reportedly pursuing the defendant in a car chase. At some point during the pursuit, a crash occurred, and the police officer did not survive. In addition to first degree murder, the suspect is also facing several other felony charges, including aggravating fleeing, attempt to elude a police officer and reckless homicide.

The penalties for a conviction on the first degree murder charge alone include a possible 20- to 60-year prison sentence. Generally speaking, those facing these types of serious charges often request immediate assistance from skilled and experienced defense attorneys in the hope of minimizing the potential negative effects such situations may carry into the future. Every case is different, and there are times when incarceration can be avoided through an aggressive defense strategy.

Murder charges do not necessarily mean a conviction will be rendered. Every person charged in Illinois (or any other state) is presumed innocent unless proved otherwise in court. In order to protect one's rights and make every effort to preserve one's private and professional reputation, it may be best to act alongside an attorney who has successfully defended others in similar situations in the past.
